While searching for a job, don't overlook the value of networking. You will need to
network for everything from getting tip-offs about job openings, to getting help with
resumes and cover-letters, to ensuring that your references are in touch with you and
are representing you as well as possible to your prospective employers.

Social networking sites, such as Twitter, Myspace, and Facebook are excellent
places to start. If you have an account up and running with friends and acquaintances,
then brief messages about your job search and need for employment may result in
some interesting opportunities.

Other ways to use social networking sites include: soliciting people to help review
your cover letters and resumes before you send them out and also requesting
suggestions about resources that are available that others may already be familiar
with.

Other forms of networking are equally, if not more valuable. You may contact people
who can sit down with you, make note of your strong points, and give you ideas about
how to present yourself to employers. These people might also be able to provide job
leads, if not with particular companies, at least with different industries that may be
hiring.

In short, anyone with whom you come into contact is a wealth of knowledge and
information. Accessing these channels increases your chances of finding the key to
successful employment.
